Bangladesh has decided to keep retail fuel prices unchanged for May, maintaining the rates set in mid-April despite ongoing volatility in global energy markets.
In a notification issued on Thursday, the Energy and Mineral Resources Division under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources said the existing prices of diesel, kerosene, octane and petrol will remain in force throughout the month.
Under the decision, diesel will continue to be sold at Tk 115 per litre, kerosene at Tk 130, octane at Tk 140 and petrol at Tk 135.
The current pricing was last set on April 18, when authorities adjusted fuel rates in line with international market trends and supply considerations. Officials said those conditions remain broadly unchanged, prompting the decision to hold prices steady for May.
The notification said the decision has been approved by the competent authority and will take effect from May 1.
Energy officials said fuel prices are being reviewed on a monthly basis, taking into account global price movements and import costs.
They indicated that adjustments could be made in the coming months depending on changes in the international market.
Relevant agencies have been instructed to take necessary steps to implement the decision.
