bKash and Huawei have jointly won the GSMA GLOMO Award for “Best FinTech Innovation” at MWC Barcelona 2025 for their digital loan solution aimed at expanding financial access in Bangladesh.
The award highlights significant advancements in financial technology that are reshaping how individuals and businesses manage and access financial services.
bKash and Huawei introduced the ‘Pay Later’ service in Bangladesh, providing short-term microloans to unbanked users to help them manage urgent financial needs.
Since its launch in 2018, bKash has extended financial services to 61% of Bangladeshi adults.
However, 37% of the population still depends on high-interest informal lenders, while only 9% have access to formal banking services.
The partnership with Huawei aims to bridge this gap by offering instant, paperless microloans, particularly benefiting rural women and small businesses.
Mohammad Azmal Huda, Chief Product and Technology Officer (CPTO) of bKash, said,
“Leveraging the easy-to-integrate and scalable capabilities of Huawei’s mobile money platform, we have rapidly expanded more than 20 key payment scenarios and embedded āPay Laterā micro financial services.
This initiative has empowered millions of people to attain financial dignity and has accelerated our mission to drive financial inclusion across Bangladesh.ā
Maurice Ma, President of Huawei Software Business Unit, expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating, “We are honored to jointly receive the GLOMO Best FinTech Innovation Award with bKash. Huawei will continue to invest in product innovation, integrate the strengths of our partners, and create greater commercial and social value for our customers.”
Huawei’s Mobile Money solution, which has served 480 million users in over 40 countries, played a key role in the success of this project.
Built on a cloud-native distributed architecture, the solution offers 99.999% platform reliability and unlimited scalability, ensuring uninterrupted services. Its advanced data and AI capabilities also support agile financial risk assessments and revenue growth.
