Chevron and AUW celebrate closing of 2026 Math and Science Summer School

Chevron Bangladesh and the Asian University for Women (AUW) have marked the successful completion of the 2026 Math and Science Summer School, with 104 college students from across Bangladesh receiving certificates after completing the four-week programme.

The closing ceremony, held at the AUW campus in Chattogram, brought together education, government and industry representatives to celebrate the achievements of the young women and highlight the importance of expanding opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

The chief guest, Dr Md Ziauddin, Divisional Commissioner of Chattogram, praised AUW and Chevron Bangladesh for their continued commitment to women’s education and the development of future STEM leaders.

Also attending were Ashiq Rahman, Director of Operations at Chevron Bangladesh, and Dee Bourbon, Lead Advisor, Community Partnerships at Chevron. Their participation reflected Chevron’s continuing partnership with AUW and its support for initiatives aimed at widening access to education for young women in Bangladesh.

Dr Mohiuddin Ahsanul Kabir Chowdhury, Director of the Summer School at AUW, thanked the students and faculty for their commitment throughout the programme, describing the initiative as an important opportunity for young women seeking to develop their academic and professional potential.

Ashiq Rahman said Chevron had been proud to support the programme since 2019.

“Through initiatives like this, we aim to encourage more young women to pursue STEM education and unlock their potential.”

Dee Bourbon said the programme helped participants develop confidence and knowledge while opening up opportunities for their future.

“We are proud to support a programme that helps young women build confidence, expand their knowledge, and pursue opportunities that can shape their futures.”

A key moment at the ceremony was the presentation of the Emerging Woman Leader in STEM award to nine participants, recognising their outstanding performance and leadership potential.

Since its launch in 2019, the Chevron Bangladesh-supported AUW Summer School has provided 477 young women from across Bangladesh with access to specialised courses in mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer programming and public health. The courses are delivered by experienced Bangladeshi and international faculty.
