Emirates has become the first airline to offer a comprehensive travel insurance package that includes medical protection for conflict-related incidents, introducing a new level of coverage for international travellers amid growing concerns over geopolitical disruptions.
The airline said its enhanced Comprehensive Travel Cover, developed in partnership with Travel Guard, provides a wide range of benefits including trip cancellation protection, compensation for lost or delayed baggage, worldwide medical expense coverage and emergency evacuation assistance.
A notable feature of the policy is conflict-related medical coverage of up to US$25,000. The package also includes a complimentary extension of travel insurance for up to 30 days when circumstances require passengers to prolong their stay.
Emirates said customers affected by travel disruptions linked to covered incidents would receive additional support, including hotel accommodation, assistance with extended stays and rebooking on alternative Emirates or partner airline flights without additional charges.
The new insurance product became available on 17 June and can be purchased during the flight booking process on the Emirates website or added later through the airline’s “Manage Booking” service.
Initially, the cover is being offered to customers in selected markets across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates.
The move comes as airlines and travel companies seek to strengthen customer protection amid increasing uncertainty caused by regional conflicts, extreme weather events and other travel disruptions. Emirates said the enhanced insurance package is designed to provide greater peace of mind and financial security for passengers travelling internationally.
