The government has raised the prices of fuel oil by Tk 0.75 to Tk 2.5 per litre for June at the consumer level “to adjust the devaluation of the taka against the US dollar”.
According to a statement of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources issued on Thursday, the prices of diesel and kerosene have increased by Tk 0.75 to Tk 107.75 from Tk 107 with effect from June 1.
Petrol price has been go up by Tk 2.5 to Tk 127 from Tk 124.5 and octane by Tk 2.5 to Tk 131 from Tk 128.5.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Division set the new automated price through a gazette notification as per the government decision on Thursday.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Division (EMRD) statement said that although the prices of petroleum decreased in the global market, the devaluation of the taka against the US dollar has behind the reason an increase in fuel prices locally.
Earlier, the government raised fuel oil prices by up to Tk 2.5 a litre for May after decreasing them in the first two months of the introduction of the monthly adjustment system.
The government introduced the new formula to fix fuel oil rates according to the terms of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on 7 March, 2024 for a $4.7 billion loan.
On 29 February, the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) issued a notification on Automatic Fuel Oil Pricing Guidelines.
According to the notification, the prices of all petroleum fuels – petrol, diesel, octane, kerosene, furnace oil, jet fuel, and marine fuels – will be set automatically based on the international market price.
