The Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP) has approved six procurement proposals, including the import of two cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the spot market, involving a total cost of Tk8,198.53 crore.
The approval was given during a meeting of the committee held on Wednesday at the Secretariat, chaired by Economic Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.
Following the meeting, it was revealed that two separate proposals for LNG imports were approved for the periods of March 9-10 and March 15-16. The 10th LNG cargo will be procured directly from Switzerland-based company Total Energies Gas & Power Ltd.
The price per unit of gas has been set at $15.73, with a total expenditure of Tk754.42 crore.
Meanwhile, the 11th LNG cargo will be procured through international competitive bidding, with Singapore-based Gunvor Singapore Pte Ltd supplying the cargo. The price per unit of gas has been set at $15.47, totaling Tk741.95 crore.
Additionally, the committee approved a proposal for contractor selection under Dhaka WASA’s “Sayedabad Water Treatment Plant Phase-3” project. The contract covering Component 1: Intake, Raw Water Pumping Station, and Raw Water Pipeline will be executed jointly by CMEC-YREC-SMEDI, with an expenditure of Tk5,964.10 crore.
Another approved proposal involves hiring a contractor for the ‘Community Workfare and Services Support, Non-Consulting Service-01’ package under the IDA-funded “ISO Component-6: Building Community Resilience and Self-Reliance (BCRSR)” project. The World Food Programme (WFP) will implement this project at a cost of Tk488 crore.
The committee also approved the import of 30,000 metric tonnes of bagged granular urea fertiliser from Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Ltd under the 14th lot for the current fiscal year. The cost per metric tonne is set at $422.625, with a total expenditure of Tk154.68 crore.
Furthermore, a proposal for procuring 10,000 metric tonnes of lentils through an open local tender for the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) was approved. The price per kilogram is Tk95.40, with a total cost of Tk95.40 crore.
The meeting was also informed about the cancellation of a previous decision to procure 100,000 metric tonnes of imported rice for the private sector through local tenders.
Meanwhile, before the procurement meeting, the Advisers Council Committee on Economic Affairs (ACCEA), also chaired by the Economic Adviser, gave policy approval for two direct purchase proposals—one for an LNG cargo from the spot market and another for procuring physical services for the upcoming “Bangladesh Investment Summit 2025,” scheduled to be held in Dhaka from April 7-10.
