Govt raises fuel prices by Tk 5 per litre

The government of Bangladesh has increased retail prices of several petroleum products amid continuing volatility in the global energy market, while leaving diesel prices unchanged, according to an official notification.

The Energy and Mineral Resources Division announced that the revised prices will take effect from Monday, 1 June 2026, as part of the government’s monthly fuel price adjustment mechanism linked to international oil market trends.

Under the new pricing structure, octane will rise to Tk145 per litre, petrol to Tk140 per litre and kerosene to Tk135 per litre — each increasing by Tk5 per litre.

Diesel prices, however, will remain unchanged at Tk115 per litre.

Officials said the adjustment was made in line with fluctuations in global fuel prices and rising import costs stemming from continued geopolitical instability in the Middle East.

Bangladesh, which imports the majority of its refined fuel requirements, has faced mounting pressure on its energy import bill following disruptions in international oil supply chains linked to the Iran-Israel conflict.

The latest increase is expected to raise transportation, industrial and irrigation costs, potentially adding further pressure to inflation in the coming months.

The government has been revising fuel prices monthly under an automatic pricing formula introduced to align domestic fuel prices more closely with international market movements.

The government has already spent an additional US$2 billion due to the global increase in fuel prices caused by the US-Israel war and the conflict involving Iran.
