The government would take initiative to endorse more renewable energy projects diverting to reduce dependency on costly import fuel projects.
Newly appointed Power, Energy, Rail, Road Transport, and Bridges adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan informed about the interim government policy to journalists while visiting the newly installed 35MW solar based power plant at Paturia under Sibaloy Upazila in Manikganj district yesterday.
He added the government would encourage the private sector for expansion of the renewable energy projects. “But they (private sector) must be competed with each other,” according to him.
The adviser stressed the need of the sustainable development and said then Awami League government has taken projects without competition. So, the project cost has increased significantly, according to him.
He, however, said the government has no immediate plan to adjust the power tariff. “We are now providing Tk 420 billion subsidy in power sector….futuristic plan will be taken to reduce power generation cost,” said Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan.
