Substation frire cuts power to parts of Dhaka

A fire at an electrical substation in central Dhaka left several parts of the capital without electricity from Saturday afternoon, disrupting power supplies across a number of busy commercial and residential districts.

The blaze broke out at around 1:30pm local time at a substation near the FDC intersection. Three fire service units from Tejgaon responded to the incident and brought the fire under control shortly after arriving at the scene.

According to the Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC), the outage affected areas including Karwan Bazar, Tejgaon, Banglamotor, Paribagh, Moghbazar and Eskaton, as well as neighbouring districts.

The utility said electricity had been restored to some areas through alternative supply arrangements, while engineers continued working to repair the damaged substation.

A DPDC director said power was expected to be fully restored by around 10pm on Saturday, provided repair work progressed as planned.
