Country’s energy giant Summit’s sponsored (floating storage re-gasification unit (FSRU) is likely to resume operation on September 15, 2024, a top policy maker said.
“We are not providing adequate supply of natural gas to consumer end as Summit’s FSRU shut down over three months…..the FSRU might be resumed supply on September 15,” Power, Energy, Rail, Road Transport, and Bridges adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan said while Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) President Ashraf Ahmed calls on him at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
The adviser said not only businesses but also electricity and fertilizer have been suffering, he also informed.
“We are not starting production of 800MW Rupsha gas-fired power plant due to gas shortfall,” he added.
The adviser said the interim government will not promote any particular group or person. “We will invite bid for implementing power and energy projects through transparency and accountability,” he said.
The adviser also said the government has taken decision to cancel Quick Enhancement of Electricity and Energy Supply (Special Provision) Act 2010.
DCCI President Ashraf Ahmed at the meeting said the industrial units are not getting adequate supply of electricity and natural gas.
He demanded to ensure adequate supply of natural gas to industries through rationing the supply in household and CNG uses.
They also demanded to reduce the tariffs of power and natural gas as like as fuel prices.
