Four officers and an employee of the Petrobangla have received punishment over attacked the headquarters of the state-owned oil, gas and mineral corporation Petrobangla, on Tuesday, demanding cancellation of the appointment of its new managing director.

The suspended staffers are identified as deputy general manager (exploration and physibility study) Md Tariqul Islam, deputy general manager (services) Md Abdul Jalil, manager (planning strategy) Md Fazlul Huq, manager (engineering) Md Saifuddin and supporting staff of Petrobangla Md Nazrul Islam.

They have also demanded to review the appointment of Titas new managing director (MD) and fresh appointment from within their officers.

Shahnewaz Parvez, a former managing director of Gas Transmission Company Ltd (GTCL), has been made the managing director of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd with current charge.

He replaced Engineer Harunur Rashid Mollah, whose contractual employment was cancelled over alleged corruption charge by the government.

According to an office order of Petrobangla, Shahnewaz Parvez has been transferred to Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd with the new charge.

About the incident of attack by Titas employees, Petrobangla Chairman Zanedra Nath Sarker told reporters that the demand of the protesters is not justified as Petrobangla always appoints Titas MD from its senior general managers.

“We are not getting any eligible senior GM in Titas for the post of the MD. As a result, after consultation with the Energy and Mineral Resources Division (EMRD), we appointed the new MD from the senior GM list of Petrobangla”, he told journalists.
