push to Titas 22pc system loss: Nasrul

At least 921 industrials, CNG re-fuelling stations, captive power plants and commercial consumers were mainly responsible for huge system loss of the country’s major gas distribution company Titas Gas with a cumulative figure to22 percent, said a top policymaker.

“A total of 336 industrial units, 97 captive power plants, 13 CNG re-fuelling stations and 475 commercial consumers are main culprit in titas gas system loss,” said State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid after visiting the activities and progress of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd at its headquarter on Thursday.

Then, the industries units were consuming lined gas illegally and made burden of the huge system loss, he said with disappointment.

He said the company has already disconnected 989 kilometers distribution lines illegally connected over 8.65 lakh consumers with realizing Tk 604 crore as fine. “It helps to come down Titas system loss to 7.5 percent now from 22 percent over two years,” Nasrul said.

“We don’t care anyone to disconnect illegal lines as Prime Minister’s is the main boss of the power ministry,” he said.

He appreciated the Titas initiative and said the company has already appointed third party financial auditor and consultant that also help to come down system loss.

“I have already asked to Titas Gas to conduct audit of the usage of gas in CNG and Industrial units annually to stop gas pilferage,” Nasrul also said.

The Titas gas is planning to open a bid to install 3.5 million prepaid meters at consumers end with the funding of Japanese bank as well as Tk 12000 crore pipeline project between Dhaka and Narayanganj to address system loss into zero level within a year, according to him.

The government is planning to invite bond for Titas gas to make the company more solvent, the minister also said.
