Standard Chartered’s investments impact 18m lives in Bangladesh

Standard Chartered Bangladesh has reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to sustainable development through high-impact initiatives aimed at empowering rural communities, enhancing agricultural livelihoods, driving education and entrepreneurship, and promoting climate resilience.

Over the past five years alone, the Bank’s community programmes have reached more than 18 million people across Bangladesh. These efforts have been carried out in collaboration with NGOs, social enterprises, and academic institutions.

The initiatives are part of Standard Chartered’s broader strategy to support Bangladesh’s sustainable development, building on over 25 years of meaningful engagement with local communities.

Naser Ezaz Bijoy, Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bangladesh, said:
“Our purpose extends beyond banking. In 2024 alone, our community programmes positively impacted nearly one million lives — supporting farmers, youth, small businesses, and vulnerable groups. Whether planting mangroves, funding agricultural innovation, enabling eye care in remote villages, or creating job opportunities through skills development — we remained focused on driving real, positive change.”

Bitopi Das Chowdhury, Country Head of Corporate Affairs, Brand & Marketing (CABM) at Standard Chartered Bangladesh, added: “We are privileged to stand beside our partners and communities as they lead transformative change. This year’s impact is about more than numbers — it’s about resilience, dignity, and hope taking root in every household, field, polyhouse, and beehive.” These community-focused investments underscore the Bank’s dedication to inclusive growth and long-term development across Bangladesh.
