The government is committed to attracting more foreign direct investment (FDI) by improving the country’s business environment, reducing the cost of doing business and accelerating trade facilitation, Prime Minister’s Adviser and his Office’s Spokesperson Mahdi Amin said on Thursday.
He said the government’s objective is to create an investment-friendly ecosystem that will generate employment, empower people and support sustainable economic growth.
“The Prime Minister has a clear vision for Bangladesh’s development. We want to build an investment climate that creates jobs, lowers business costs and unlocks new opportunities for trade and investment,” Mahdi said.
He was addressing the FICCI FDI Conference 2026, organised by the Foreign Investors’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the capital.
The conference, titled “Accelerating Foreign Investment for Jobs and Prosperity in Bangladesh,” was inaugurated by Prime Minister Tarek Rahman, who also visited the Investors’ Expo and exchanged views with representatives of participating companies before the formal opening.
Mahdi said the government, which assumed office five months ago, is pursuing reforms to make policymaking and implementation more efficient by improving coordination among ministries and reducing bureaucratic complexities.
He said the restructuring of government offices is intended to speed up decision-making, strengthen policy implementation and ensure ministries work in line with the government’s electoral commitments.
The adviser described the government’s first national budget as “people-friendly, business-friendly and investment-friendly,” saying it reflects the aspirations of citizens while supporting private sector growth.
Acknowledging long-standing economic and administrative challenges, Mahdi said the government sees them as opportunities for reform, job creation and economic expansion.
“We have adopted a realistic and pragmatic approach. Every challenge is also an opportunity to rebuild the nation, create employment and strengthen businesses through effective policy support,” he said.
Mahdi stressed the need for regular engagement between policymakers and the business community, saying the government wants to establish a permanent consultation mechanism with both local and foreign investors.
He said such dialogue would help ensure that investors’ concerns and expectations are reflected in policy formulation and implementation.
Thanking foreign investors for their continued confidence in Bangladesh, Mahdi said they also play an important role in promoting the country’s image abroad.
“You are not only investing in Bangladesh; you are also representing the country globally and helping promote the ‘Made in Bangladesh’ brand. We consider you ambassadors of Bangladesh in your respective countries,” he said.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting business, entrepreneurship and industrialisation, saying the ultimate goal is to create more jobs and expand investment and trade opportunities.
Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Mukadir, State Minister for Land Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, FICCI President and Berger Paints Bangladesh Managing Director Rupali Haque Chowdhury, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Ashik Chowdhury, diplomats, senior government officials, development partners, multinational company executives and around 600 local and foreign investors also attended the meeting.
