Japan’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Iwama Kiminori, emphasized the immense potential of Bangladesh as a destination for Japanese ICT investments while speaking at the ‘BASIS Japan Day 2024,’ organized by the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) at the Renaissance Dhaka Gulshan Hotel.
The event aimed to strengthen Bangladesh-Japan trade ties, foster ICT collaboration, and showcase Bangladesh’s growing capabilities in the technology sector.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Kiminori stated, “Bangladesh has made remarkable progress in ICT and holds immense promise as an investment destination for Japanese businesses. Long-term comprehensive planning and improved business conditions can further attract Japanese investments. Collaboration in the ICT sector can greatly benefit both nations.”
ICT Division Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury, urged Japan to facilitate employment opportunities for skilled and semi-skilled Bangladeshi youth. “ICT is the driving force of our economy, and Bangladeshi youth are excelling in Japan’s ICT sector. With the support of Japanese investors, we can strengthen our foundation further,” he said.
The program was attended by high-profile participants, including Policy Advisor for ICT Coordination and Reform Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Vice President of the University of Miyazaki Yasue Yoshinari; Chief Representative of JICA Bangladesh Ichiguchi Tomohide; President of JBCCI Tareq Rafi Bhuiyan (Jun); and Vice Mayor of Miyazaki City Hidenari Nagayama.
Co-Convener of BASIS Japan Day 2024 Dewan Samir, delivered the welcome speech, while Chairman of the BASIS Japan Desk AKM Ahmedul Islam Babu, moderated the event.
In this event, two cooperation agreements were signed during the program to boost bilateral collaboration. The first, between the BASIS Japan Desk and Miyazaki IT Plus, was signed by President of Miyazaki IT Plus AKM Ahmedul Islam Babu and Noriaki Okada. The second agreement was finalized between Kawai and e-Growth, expanding the scope for joint ICT initiatives.
Meanwhile, a panel discussion titled “Digital Transformation: Scopes for Japan-Bangladesh Collaboration” explored avenues for deeper partnerships.
Fayez Ahmed Taiyeb, Policy Advisor to the ICT Division, delivered the keynote address, outlining how both nations could leverage digital transformation for economic growth.
The program also highlighted skill development as a cornerstone of bilateral relations.
Certificates were awarded to nine batches of graduates from the “B-MEET” Japanese Language Course Program, jointly conducted by BASIS and Miyazaki University.
This initiative aims to bridge the language gap and enhance opportunities for Bangladeshi ICT professionals in Japan.
With an emphasis on collaboration, BASIS Japan Day 2024 served as a platform to solidify ties between Bangladesh and Japan, paving the way for stronger economic and technological partnerships.
