BIDA secures over $400m investments from $1.5bn FDI pipeline

The Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) has converted more than US$400 million in foreign investments from a $1.5 billion investment pipeline launched in 2025 into the decision and implementation stages, reflecting growing investor confidence in Bangladesh.

According to BIDA, the investment pipeline includes 70 prospective investors from 20 countries, with Turkey, China, Singapore, the Netherlands and South Korea emerging as the leading source countries.

The authority said the initiative achieved a conversion rate of more than 15 percent—exceeding global benchmarks for turning investment leads into active projects.

Among the largest commitments, Hong Kong-based Handa Industries Ltd. increased its planned investment to $300 million, doubling its original commitment following facilitation by BIDA, the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) and the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA).

The investment will be implemented in two phases. The first involves an $80 million garment factory at the Mirsarai BEPZA Special Economic Zone, while the second will see a $220 million integrated textile complex established in Keraniganj. The project is expected to create around 25,000 jobs.

Chinese textile giant Hengli Group, through its subsidiary Lead Bangladesh Textile Technology Co. Ltd., is investing $35 million to set up an advanced automated textile manufacturing facility at the Bangladesh Special Economic Zone (BSEZ) in Araihazar.

Another Chinese manufacturer, China Lesso Group, has finalised a $32 million investment to establish a heavy manufacturing plant at the National Special Economic Zone in Chattogram. The factory will produce PVC pipes, solar panels and other construction materials using environmentally sustainable production methods.

In the financial sector, Sri Lanka’s Softlogic Life Insurance has acquired a 60 percent stake in Diamond Life Insurance for approximately $1.9 million, introducing artificial intelligence-based underwriting and faster claims settlement technologies.

Meanwhile, Malaysian retail chain MR.DIY has expanded its footprint to more than 17 mega stores across Dhaka, Chattogram and Rajshahi with regulatory support from BIDA and Bangladesh Bank.

BIDA also said Megarich, a manufacturer of airline amenity kits, is investing $15 million in Bangladesh, helping diversify the country’s export basket beyond the ready-made garment industry.

The authority said the investments are expected to facilitate technology transfer, strengthen domestic supply chains and reduce import dependence in several key industries.

Building on the momentum, BIDA aims to develop another $1.5 billion investment pipeline by the end of 2026 through dedicated investment teams and specialised sectoral desks.
