The CCCI made the call through a letter signed by CCCI president Omar Hazzaz on January 3, 2024 in this regard.
According to the letter, the port city will require maximum 450mmcfd of natural gas against the supply of 280mmcfd. “We are only receiving 280mmcfd of natural gas. Of them, two fertiliser factories and a thermal power plants receive 100mmcfd of gas,” according to him.
So, the rest of supply will distribute under the rationing at households, industrial units, CNG and other consumers, according to him. “Large consumers end are suffering on gas crisis,” he said.
Recently, the Petrobangla has ordered to withdraw 30mmcfd for Meghnaghat power plant, he added. It pushed to intensify the suffering to consumers in Chattogram.
He added the withdrawal of gas from Chattogram will create severe gas crisis in Chattogram that will push the resentment, disappointment and negative impact among household and industrial users.
He called upon the state minister for power, energy and mineral resources to take necessary steps to withdraw the decision on lifting allocated natural gas.
