Chattogram urged to embrace renewable energy for a sustainable future

A human chain was organized in front of Prime School & College at Chandgaon in Chattogram, demanding sustainable and eco-friendly energy.

The campaign was jointly organized by ISDE Bangladesh, CLEAN, and BWGED, with participation from students, teachers, environmental activists, and local citizens.

The event aimed to highlight the risks of climate change and advocate for the expansion of renewable energy.

Speakers at the campaign emphasized the harmful effects of fossil fuels and the potential of renewable energy.

They stated that reducing dependence on fossil fuels and shifting toward renewable energy is the safest path for future generations.

They pointed out that the use of LNG and other fossil fuels is harming the environment, increasing electricity production costs, and putting additional pressure on the economy.

Syed Abul Hasan Azami, Chattogram Coordinator of the Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB), Raisul Islam, an officer of ISDE Bangladesh, CAB leader and social worker Jane Alam, and Md. Abu Yunus, Director of Prime School & College, expressed solidarity with the initiative.

They stressed the need to expand solar and wind energy to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

Speakers further pointed out that LNG imports are increasing energy costs, creating long-term economic challenges.

The burning of fossil fuels contributes to higher carbon dioxide and methane emissions, accelerating global warming.

They emphasized that investing in renewable energy would not only address the electricity crisis but also create new employment opportunities.

Students and youth participated in the human chain, holding placards with slogans demanding a transition to renewable energy. They carried messages such as “No to fossil fuels, renewable energy is our future!”, “Stop LNG imports, support renewable energy!”, and “Green energy, green future!”

Their participation reflected the growing concern among young people about environmental sustainability.

Participating students expressed their aspirations for a sustainable energy system in Bangladesh. They voiced their hope that the country would move towards an eco-friendly and sustainable energy future.

According to them, there is no alternative to renewable energy for securing their future.

The organizing bodiesā€”ISDE Bangladesh, CLEAN, and BWGEDā€”announced that they would continue awareness campaigns and expand their movement across different regions to promote renewable energy adoption.

They pledged to intensify their efforts to raise public consciousness about the benefits of green energy and advocate for policy changes to facilitate a transition away from fossil fuels.
