The government on Thursday approved the purchase of three liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes from the international spot market to help meet the country’s growing gas demand.
The decision came at the 20th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP), chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
The committee cleared the procurement at an estimated cost of Tk 2,186.35 crore. The LNG will be sourced from Singapore-based suppliers Vitol Asia Pte Ltd, BP Singapore Pte Ltd and Gunvor Singapore Pte Ltd through spot market quotations, in line with the Public Procurement Rules, 2008.
According to the delivery schedule, the 20th cargo is expected to arrive on June 8–9, followed by the 21st cargo on June 9–10 and the 22nd cargo on June 14–15.
