Govt approves TB drugs, edible oil purchase

The government has cleared proposals to procure anti-tuberculosis (TB) medicines and 20 million litres of refined palm olei n,

The approval came at the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase held with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair

In total, the committeer cleared four proposals from different ministries, including two infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening customs facilities and fertiliser storage.

The Health Services Division received approval to procure 10.69 crore units of anti-TB drugs (2FDC) under an open tender, at a cost of Tk 74.35 crore. Renata PLC was selected as the supplier.

Officials said the purchase is intended to ensure an uninterrupted nationwide supply of TB medicines under the national control programme.

In a separate move, the committee approved the procurement of 2 crore litres of refined palm olein oil in 2-litre bottles through a national tender, with a total estimated cost of Tk 368.90 crore.

Sonargaon Seeds Crushing Mills Ltd. and Shabnam Vegetable Oil Industries Ltd. will each supply half of the volume.

The move is expected to support market stability and maintain adequate edible oil supply.

The committee also cleared a Tk 102.41 crore project for constructing residential buildings for Customs House, Chattogram, under the Customs Modernisation and Infrastructure Development initiative. The work will be carried out by M Jamal & Company Limited.

Another approval went to the Industries Ministry for building a 20,000-metric-ton fertiliser warehouse in Rangpur under a revised project to construct 34 buffer godowns nationwide.

The project, to be implemented by SS Rahman International Ltd., will cost Tk 59.20 crore and is aimed at improving fertiliser storage and distribution to ensure timely supply to farmers.

Officials said the combined decisions reflect efforts to strengthen public health support, stabilise essential commodity markets, and improve logistics infrastructure.
