Govt to procure one cargo LNG from Korea

State-run Petrobangla will purchase one cargo Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from the spot market from a Korean Company spending Tk693 crore to meet energy demand for the month of January 2025.  

The approval for a proposal of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division came from the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP) held at the Cabinet Division conference room at the secretariat on Thursday with Salehuddin Ahmed, adviser to the Ministry of Finance, in the chair.

Besides, ACCGP also gave nod to proposals for procuring 1,30,000 tonnes of fertiliser.

M/S POSCO International Corporation, Incheon, Korea has been picked up as the lower bidder for the LNG supply through an international quotation process. Per MMBtu LNG will cost US$14.69.

In line with another approved proposal of the Ministry of Industries, the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) will procure some 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertiliser from Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO) under the 10th lot for the fiscal year (FY25) with around Taka 123.57 crore, with per tonne costing US$343.25.

Under a separate proposal, the BCIC will procure some 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertiliser from SABIC Agri-nutrients Company, Saudi Arabia under the 14th lot for the fiscal year (FY25) at a cost of Tk125.88 crore, with per tonne costing $349.67.

The meeting also approved a proposal from the Ministry of Agriculture to allow the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) to procure 30,000 metric tonnes of MOP fertiliser under state-level agreement from Prodintorg, Russia with around Tk104.31 crore where per tonne fertiliser will cost $489.75.

Additionally, the BADC will also procure 40,000 metric tonnes of DAP fertiliser under state-level agreement from OCP NUTRICROPS SA, Morocco with around Tk280.56 crore where per tonne fertiliser will cost $584.50.
