Furnace oil price hiked by Tk 18.85 per litre

Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has raised the consumer-level price of furnace oil by Tk 18.85 per litre, setting the new rate at Tk 113.54 from the existing Tk 94.69.

The revised price will take effect from midnight tonight and remain valid until further notice, according to a notification issued on Monday signed by BERC Secretary Md Nazrul Islam Sarkar.

The commission said the adjustment was made under sections 22(b) and 34 of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission Act, 2003.

According to BERC, the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) submitted a proposal in February seeking a revision of furnace oil prices. Subsequently, Meghna Petroleum Limited, Standard Asiatic Oil Company Limited, Jamuna Oil Company Limited and Padma Oil Company Limited proposed changes in marketing and transportation charges.

A committee formed on March 15 reviewed the proposals and later recommended an adjustment in April after considering the average Platts rate of refined furnace oil published in March and fluctuations in the US dollar exchange rate.

The commission finalized the new pricing structure during special meetings held on May 18.

BPC supplies furnace oil to the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), government and private power plants, industrial units and other consumers across the country.

In April 2026, the consumer-level price of furnace oil stood at Tk 70.10 per litre.

The authority to determine prices of furnace oil and Jet A-1 fuel was transferred to BERC through a government notification issued after the interim government assumed office.
