Environment, Forest and Climate Change adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, emphasized the necessity of inter-ministerial collaboration to address the adverse effects of climate change on agriculture.
She highlighted the joint efforts of the Ministries of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Environment to devise sustainable solutions.
Speaking as the chief guest at a roundtable discussion titled āImpact of Climate Change on Agriculture and the Way Forward,ā organized by the Bangladesh Agricultural Reporters Forum (BARF) at the National Press Club, Rizwana Hasan stressed the importance of long-term planning to ensure sustainable agricultural production.
She pointed out that droughts, excessive rainfall, salinity, and floods are causing a decline in agricultural yields.
To combat these challenges, she called for the application of innovative research and technology.
Additionally, she underlined the need for producing safe and organic food, urging all stakeholders to prioritize food safety and pesticide awareness.
Chaired by BARF President Rafiqul Islam Sabuj and moderated by General Secretary Kawsar Azam, the roundtable was attended by Dr. Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian, Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, as a special guest, and Abdul Awal Mintoo, former FBCCI President, as keynote speaker.
Besides, Dr. Ali Afzal, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Seed Association, presented a paper outlining solutions for climate-resilient agriculture.
Speakers at the discussion advocated for sustainable agricultural practices, the development of climate-resilient crops, and targeted support for small-scale farmers to mitigate climate risks.
The event brought together agricultural experts, environmentalists, policymakers, and journalists to deliberate on strategies for safeguarding agriculture in the face of climate change.
