Move to modernise BREB’s distribution network in Dhaka and Mymensingh

The government has cleared a procurement proposal to modernise the power distribution system of Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions under the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB).   

At a meeting on Tuesday, the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP) gave nod to a revised proposal for the “BREB’s Power Distribution System Improvement and Capacity Enhancement Project for Dhaka and Mymenshingh Division, (Special Revision)” project.

The meeting held with Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair also gave nod to six separate proposals of the Ministry Of Industries to procure 1,20,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser and 30,000 metric tonnes of phosphoric acid.

Under the revised proposal, a work order was given to the Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory to supply steel cross arm under the MCEP/BREB/DMD-CA-G-15, Lot-1 package of the Power Division’s project at a cost of over Tk70 crore.   

The Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) got a green signal to procure 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertilizer from SABIC Agri-nutrient Company, Saudi Arabia at a cost of Tk132.06 crore with per tonne costing US$360.83.

The corporation will procure another 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertiliser from Fertiglobe Distribution Limited, The United Arab Emirates (UAE) spending the same amount under a separate proposal.

Qatar Energy Marketing, Qatar will sypply another 30,000 tonnes granular urea at a cost of 138.65 crore with per tonne costing $378.83, while Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO) will supply the rest of 30,000 tonnes granular urea at Tk129.47 crore where per tone fertiliser will cost $353.75.

Out of 30,000 tonnes phosphoric acid, 10,000 tonnes for the TSPCL will be purchased from
M/S Zentrade FZE UAE (Manufacturer: M/S OCP SA Morocco) spending Tk75.37 crore.

The BCIC will also buy 20,000 tonnes of phosphoric acid for the DAPFCL involving Tk149 crore from M/S Sun International FZE UAE (Manufacturer: M/S Guiangxi Pengyue Eco-technology Co. Ltd, South Africa).
