Petrobangla signs MoUs with JU, SUST to boost research collaboration

Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla) signed two separate Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Jahangirnagar University (JU) and Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST).

The MoUs aim to enhance research activities, knowledge exchange, and skill development within the oil, gas, and mineral sectors, said a press release issued by Petrobangla.

The signing ceremony took place at Petrobangla’s Boardroom, with Md Altaf Hossain, Director (Administration) of Petrobangla, presiding over the event. Zanendra Nath Sarker, Chairman of Petrobangla, attended as the Chief Guest on Tuesday.

Begum Ruchira Islam, Senior General Manager and Secretary of Petrobangla, signed both MoUs on behalf of the corporation. Professors Md. Abdur Rob and Md. Ismail Hossain, Treasurers of Jahangirnagar University and SUST respectively, signed on behalf of their institutions.

Research and Knowledge Sharing:

The MoUs will enable Petrobangla to accelerate its research initiatives by facilitating collaboration with both universities. Students and faculty from JU and SUST will actively engage with Petrobangla’s research teams, contributing to joint research activities.

This knowledge-sharing arrangement will help bridge the gap between academic theories and practical industry needs, benefiting both the university departments and the corporation.

Skill Development and Professional Growth:

A key focus of the MoUs is the professional development of students and researchers. The collaboration will involve skill development programs, workshops, seminars, and training sessions designed to enhance the capabilities of the university’s faculty and students. These programs will ensure that future graduates are well-equipped with the practical skills required by the industry.

Access to Industry Resources:

Under the agreement, JU and SUST will gain access to Petrobangla’s facilities, including its laboratories, seismic survey equipment, drilling sites, and process plants. This access will provide students with invaluable hands-on experience in real-world industry settings, enhancing the practical application of their academic studies.

Long-Term Collaboration:

The MoUs will remain in effect for five years, with automatic renewal for an additional five years. This long-term partnership will ensure sustained collaboration and continue to foster industry-academia ties. It also highlights the importance of mutual development and cooperation in advancing both educational and industrial goals.

Building Stronger Industry-Academia Ties:

This initiative is a significant step in strengthening the relationship between industry and academia, particularly in the oil, gas, and mineral sectors. It aims to create a more integrated approach to research and development, ultimately benefiting the nation’s energy sector. By aligning academic research with practical industry needs, this collaboration is expected to drive innovation, improve workforce skills, and contribute to the country’s overall development.
