Prof Yunus calls for redesigning the global healthcare system

Chief Adviser of the interim government Professor Muhammad Yunus has called upon the global people for redesigning the global healthcare system and pharmaceutical companies to ensure a sustainable health for all.

ā€œIf you pay only US$5 a year. Imagine only US$5 dollar and you donā€™t have to pay it at one go. You can have a guaranteed healthcare system with reputed healthcare institutions,ā€ he said.

ā€œItā€™s possible and financially sustainable,ā€ said professor Yunus spelling out his dream for a global healthcare system where both rich and poor will have guaranteed healthcare system.

The 2006 Nobel Peace Laureate professor Muhammad Yunus made this call Wednesday, while speaking at a sidelines event on health services at the COP29 climate conference in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.

It has to be done in a financially sustainable way, he said adding, ā€œit should not be treated as a charity from the government.ā€

If it is treated as a charity from the government it will have to be dependent on the fate of the government , he said.

If govt changes, the system might be dependent on their wish, said professor Yunus.

But it will be sustainable if It is be based on financially sustainable manner, he said.

Professor Yunus said the quality of a civilization can be reviewed on the quality of health services they provide to the people.

In todayā€™s world very few countries have good healthcare system, he said.

But it can be It can be done very easily with a financially sustainable manner, Muhammad Yunus added.

Earlier in the day, Prof Yunus delivered his address at the opening session of the World Leaders Climate Action Summit at COP29.

Besides, he spoke at a meeting with the Social Business Group on the sidelines of the global climate meet today.
