Director General of Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation Alexey Likhachev Russia opines that nuclear energy and technology could be ideal solutions in achieving the global sustainable development goals set by the United Nations.
He was addressing the opening ceremony of the education marathon ‘Knowledge’, organized as part of the World Youth Festival 2024, being held in the federal territory of Sirius, Russia from March 1-7.
In his speech, Likhachev highlighted the role of Rosatom in achieving SDG goals. He informed that out of 25 nuclear technology export projects in the world, Rosatom is currently implementing 22. According to him, Rosatom is now the undisputed leader in this field.
“We are not only leaders in generation III+ reactor technologies. We have developed a fourth-generation nuclear landscape, which is based on the principle of a natural level of safety and a closed nuclear fuel cycle. Russia is the only country that practically implements fourth-generation projects,” noted Alexey Likhachev. “Our country is one of the main moderators of the development of nuclear energy on the planet,” he added.
The Rosatom Head also shared information about the development of the Northern Sea Route, the construction of new icebreakers, as well as the developments in the manufacturing of quantum computers, and the production of new radiopharmaceuticals.
“All our technologies must be tested for the benefit of people, and for humanitarian results. The main thing we work for is people!” concluded Alexey Likhachev.
