South Korea grants Tk108cr for enhanced smart bridge safety in Bangladesh

The South Korean government will provide a grant of US$8.55 million, approximately Tk108 crore, to Bangladesh for enhancing its capacity to maintain bridges using smart technology under the Road Transport and Highways Division.

On Thursday, the Government of Bangladesh and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) of the Republic of Korea signed the Record of Discussion (RoD) and Terms of Reference (ToR) for the project, titled “Capacity Development for Smart Maintenance Technology of Bridges under Roads and Highways Department in Bangladesh.”

The Roads and Highways Department, under the Road Transport and Highways Division, will implement the project. Its primary goal is to improve bridge safety through advanced maintenance utilizing smart technology.

Mirana Mahrukh, Additional Secretary and Wing Chief (Asia, JEC, and F&F) at the Economic Relations Division (ERD), signed on behalf of the Bangladesh government, while Taeyoung Kim, Country Director of KOICA, signed for the agency.
