Summit’s Aziz Khan denies issuing Power of Attorney

Muhammed Aziz Khan, Chairman of Summit Power International, has denied issuing any Power of Attorney (PoA).

“We have noticed that several newspapers and television channels have reported that a National ID (NID) block and travel ban were imposed on Md. Abul Kalam Azad on May 20, 2025, by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md. Zakir Hossain Galib, following an application submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC),” read a statement from Summit Group on Tuesday.

According to these reports, the NID block and travel ban were imposed on Azad on the grounds that he holds a Power of Attorney “to transfer the immovable assets in Bangladesh of Summit Group Chairman Muhammed Aziz Khan.”

“If the ACC has made such a statement to the court, it is entirely false and misleading. No Power of Attorney has been granted to anyone,” the statement clarified.

It further stated that a PoA was submitted to the Bangladesh High Commission in Singapore on April 29, 2025, for attestation, but has not yet been returned.

“Therefore, Azad does not possess any Power of Attorney. To our knowledge, the document remains with the Bangladesh High Commission for attestation, for which the required fee has been paid. The format of the PoA is in accordance with the guidelines provided on the Bangladesh High Commission’s website,” the statement said.

The PoA, which is currently under the attestation process, was prepared based on legal advice to authorise representation of Muhammed Aziz Khan in a court of law in Bangladesh. This is specifically to facilitate legal proceedings related to the unfreezing of Khan’s personal bank accounts, which were unjustifiably frozen on October 6, 2024, by a Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge, it said.

The statement emphasised that the PoA explicitly states it is “NOT APPLICABLE” for the sale of immovable property, and that this exclusion is clearly defined in Section 7 of the document.

Md. Abul Kalam Azad is an officer of Summit Group. “We believe this case has been initiated and the order given to harass and cause undue distress to a dedicated employee of the company,” the statement concluded.
