Twenty-two Bangladeshi companies and institutions are participating in the D-8 Halal Expo 2026 in Indonesia as the two countries seek to deepen bilateral trade and tap into growing opportunities in the global halal market.
The participation, facilitated by the Embassy of Indonesia in Dhaka in collaboration with the Indonesia Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IBCCI), has brought together around 40 Bangladeshi business representatives at the expo in Jakarta, according to a release.
The delegation includes leading Bangladeshi companies such as Meghna Group of Industries, PRAN-RFL Group, Akij Food & Beverages and ILLYEEN, showcasing products in the halal, food and beverage, fashion, manufacturing and consumer goods sectors.
A Bangladesh Pavilion, set up by IBCCI with support from the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), is highlighting products from Bangladeshi companies and small and medium enterprises to promote exports and strengthen commercial links with Indonesia and other D-8 member countries.
The pavilion was inaugurated by Indonesian Ambassador to Bangladesh Listyowati and IBCCI President Mohammed Riyadh Ali.
During the event, Ambassador Listyowati met Bangladeshi exhibitors and business representatives to facilitate business-to-business matchmaking and explore opportunities for trade, investment and broader economic cooperation between the two countries.
According to the Indonesian Embassy, the strong participation of Bangladeshi businesses reflects growing interest among the country’s private sector in expanding regional business networks and accessing Indonesia’s large consumer market as well as other D-8 economies.
The embassy said the expo is expected to create new business opportunities, strengthen bilateral trade and enhance connectivity between businesses in Bangladesh and Indonesia.
The Bangladesh Pavilion also demonstrates cooperation between the government and the private sector in promoting the country’s export-oriented industries in international markets, it said.
Indonesia currently holds the chairmanship of the Developing-8 (D-8) Organization for Economic Cooperation, of which Bangladesh is a member. The D-8 Halal Expo is one of the flagship initiatives under Indonesia’s chairmanship to promote the halal industry and increase trade and investment among member states.
The Indonesian Embassy and IBCCI said they would continue working with governments, business associations and the private sector in both countries to expand trade, investment and commercial partnerships.
Bangladesh and Indonesia have been seeking to strengthen economic cooperation in recent years, with both sides identifying halal products, agro-processing, pharmaceuticals, textiles and consumer goods as sectors with significant potential for increased bilateral trade.
