Bangladesh seeks addl fund from Germany for energy transition

Bangladesh has sought additional fund from Germany for achieving 40 percent electricity generation target from renewable energy by 2040.

State minister for power and energy Nasrul Hamid made the request for additional funding to German’s state secretary and special envoy on international climate action Jennifer Lee Morgan on the sideline of the second day of the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue 2024’ in Germany on Wednesday.

Nasrul said Bangladesh will require huge fund to meet the energy requirement with transition of renewable.

Bangladesh always welcomes the grant or assistance from Germany to achieve the transition target, he said.

Nasrul also sought support on technology transfer from Germany to Bangladesh for expansion on wind power, offshore   and hydroelectricity. Responded to the state minister, special envoy on international climate action Jennifer Lee Morgan said Germany has made top agenda to reduce CO2. She said Bangladesh and Germany might work together to ensure energy security and expansion of renewable.
