Bangladesh has a plan to convert 45,000 diesel fired irrigation pumps into solar based one by 2031 thanks to government’s roadmap to introduce more green energy into paddy cultivation over environmental concern.
Bangladesh will require USD1.8 billion investment to install the solar panels by 2030 for irrigation.
State minister for power and energy Nasrul Hamid on Monday disclosed the government’s roadmap at COP28 sideline in Dubai to expand renewable energy into boro paddy cultivation.
The IRENA has organised the sideline discussion while unveiling it’s initiative styled “Renewables for Climate Action: Launch of Empowering Lives and Livelihoods Initiatives”.
He said Bangladesh has already taken the Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan (MCPP) to produce 40 percent electricity from renewable by 2041.
He added we have taken mega renewable projects to achieve the target as per MCPP.
UAE emvironment and climate change minister Mariam Bint Mohammed Almheiri, Iceland’s environment, energy and climate change minister Gudlaugur Thor Tohrdarson, deputy chief of Belgium Dominique Perrin, Nepalese water resources and irrigation minister Shakti Hahadur Basnet and Indonesian energy and mineral resources minister ArifinTasrif spoke at the programme.
Besides, Nasrul Hamid attended to another meeting organised by Bangladesh Power Division styled “Scaling up Solar Irrigation in Bangladesh” in Dubai also.
At the meeting, Nasrul said, country’s electricity generation capacity from the renewable is 1200MW now which will be increased 5000MW in 2030.
