Bangladesh to procure Tk 11,479cr refined fuel oil from seven countries

The government approved a proposal of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division on Thursday for procuring refined fuel for the first half of the calendar year 2025. 

The approval came from a meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP) held at the Cabinet Division conference room at Bangladesh Secretariat with Adviser to the interim government on the Ministry of Finance Dr Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair.

Under the proposal, the refined fuel oil for the January-June period will be produced hrough premium and reference price process from eight enterprises of seven countries at a cost of around Tk11,479.04 crore.

The companies are PTTT of Thailand, OQT of Oman, ENOC of the United Arab Emirates, Petrochina of China, BSP of Indonesia, PTLCL of Malaysia, UNIPEC of China and IOCL of India.

The purchase is being made under the government-to-government (G2G) term agreement.

Besides, the government also okayed proposals for importing 100,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser through state-level agreements for use in the agricultural sector.

This includes 40,000 tonnes of DAP, 30,000 tonnes of TSP, and 30,000 tonnes of urea fertiliser from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Morocco. The total cost will amount to Tk582.24 crore.

A proposal of the Ministry of Commerce also got approval at the ACCGP meeting to procure 1,10,00,000 litres of soybean oil from Super Oil Refiner Ltd spending Tk189.15 crore with per litre costing Tk171.95.

The government also approved a proposal in principle for appointing operations and maintenance contractor for the Installation of Single Point Mooring (SPM) through Open Tender Method (OTM) instead of G2G basis.

The approval was given on Thursday in a meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Economic Affairs (ACCEA), which was also held with Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair.
