Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) is set to procure 1.30 lakh metric tonnes of diesel, with an estimated cost of Tk 1,137 crore, from Indian Numaligarh Refinery Ltd in the calendar year 2025, according to a senior official.
BPC Chairman Amin Ul Ahsan informed Just Energy News on Monday that the corporation plans to import up to 70,000 metric tonnes (MT) of diesel by June to meet the irrigation needs for Boro paddy cultivation.
āThe government will set the tariff based on international rates, with a $5.50 premium per barrel,ā said Ahsan. āWe also plan to renegotiate the premium with Numaligarh Refinery.ā
He further noted that the additional cost for diesel import will be $2 per barrel, subject to procurement via marine freight.
The Advisory Committee on Public Purchases is expected to endorse the year-long diesel procurement plan from Numaligarh Refinery Ltd on Tuesday.
Ahsan added that the government has already finalized fuel procurement plans to meet local demand and that BPC will mobilize around $1.6 billion from the ITFC loan to ensure supply.
