State Minister for Finance Waseqa Ayesha Khan has said that effective coordination and regular monitoring are essential for timely implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the country.
Simultaneously, she has also called for effective integration of SDGs with other major national plans of the country.
The State Minister for Finance made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest of a workshop on ‘Strengthening Partnership for Achieving SDGs in the Context of LDC Graduation’ organised at the NEC-2 conference room in the capital on Sunday.
Support to Sustainable Graduation Project (SSGP) of the Economic Relations Division (ERD) organised the workshop. ERD Secretary Md. Shahriar Kader Siddiky chaired the event.
The State Minister, in her speech, said that the country needs to set some smart goals for achieving SDGs. She also emphasised the need to integrate the SDGs with other major national plans.
Waseqa Ayesha Khan also underscored the need for regular monitoring and effective coordination among all the ministries and agencies for the timely implementation of SDGs.
Noting that Bangladesh has huge potentials in the field of blue economy, ERD Secretary Md. Shahriar Kader Siddiky called for utilising the country’s untapped potentials in this regard. Pointing out that development partners are eager to support Bangladesh in its development process, he also emphasised on prudent utilisation of overseas development funds.
Additional Secretary of ERD and the Project Director of SSGP AHM Jahangir delivered the welcome remarks of the event.
Additional Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office Mohd. Monirul Islam delivered a presentation on ‘Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development’ during the workshop. Meanwhile, Additional Secretary Dr. Md. Rezaul Bashar Siddique delivered a presentation on ‘LDC Graduation and SDGs Achievement Nexus’. Deputy Secretary of ERD Abul Kalam Azad delivered a presentation on ‘Overall Progress of SDG 17’.
Participants at the workshop observed that there are complementarities between LDC Graduation and SDGs. They also observed that LDC graduation can propel Bangladesh towards the timely attainment of SDGs.
