Gas supply disruption to hit nation for next 4 days

The Bangladesh Oil, Gas, and Mineral Resources Corporation (Petrobangla) has announced a nationwide temporary disruption for the next four days.

In a press release on Tuesday, Petrobangla said gas supply will be interrupted from 9:00 AM on Wednesday (January 1, 2025, to 9:00 AM on Saturday, January 4, 2025.

This interruption is due to a 72-hour shutdown of operations at the LNG terminal for necessary maintenance, said the press release issued by Tariqul Islam Khan, Deputy General Manager (Public Relations), Petrobangla.

During this period, the supply of LNG from the terminal will halt, resulting in a daily shortfall of approximately 550-580 million cubic feet of gas, it said.

Consequently, the power generation sector is expected to face a deficit of 150-180 million cubic feet of gas per day, while other sectors will experience a shortfall of 50-70 million cubic feet daily, it added.

Petrobangla has clarified that despite this disruption, no areas in the country will face a complete shutdown of gas supply. The authorities have expressed their regret for the inconvenience caused and seek public cooperation during this period.
