Government to procure 2 LNG cargoes from UAE and Singapore

The interim government will procure two cargoes of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from the spot market next month spending nearly Tk1,356 crore as a quick solution for the energy crisis.

The Advisersā€™ Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP) approved two proposals of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division to this end held on Thursday with Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair.

The meeting also cleared separate proposals for procuring a total of 1,00,000 tonnes of rice from India and Pakistan,  5.5 crore litres of edible oil, 15,000 tonnes sugar and 10,000 tonnes lentil for the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB). 

Under two separate proposals, one cargo LNG will be purchased from OQ Trading Ltd, UAE at a cost of Tk692.79 crore with per MMBtu costing $14.45, while the another cargo will be procured from Vitol Asia Pte Ltd., Singapore spending Tk663.04 crore with per MMBtu costing $13.82.

The government is importing 50,000 metric tonnes of non-boiled white rice from the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) on G2G basis at a cost of Tk304.39 crore with $499 per tone rice price.   

Under a separate proposal of the ministry of food, another another 50,000 tonnes of parboiled non-Basmati rice will be procured from Gurudeo Export Corporation Pvt Ltd, India at a cost of Tk277.02 crore following an international tender with per tonne costing $454.14.

Three separate proposals of the ministry of commerce also got nod in the meeting, under which 3.30 crore litres of soybean oil will be purchased from Super Oil Refinery and Sonargaon Seeds Crusshing Mills Ltd for the TCB spending a total of Tk567 crore, and 2.20 crore litres of palm oil will be procured from Shabnam Vegetable Oil Ltd involving Tk358.49 crore.   

Moreover, a total of 15,000 metric tonnes of refined sugar and 10,000 tonnes of lentil will be purchased from three local companies with total expenditure of Tk272.11 crore under three proposals of the same ministry.

Under two proposals of the ministry of agriculture, 30,000 metric tonnes of MOP fertiliser is being procured from Russia and 40,000 tonnes of DAP fertiliser from Morocco spending Tk396 crore.   

The ACCGP also okayed a proposal of the Secondary and Higher Education Divisionā€™s proposal for tender revision for printing textbooks for the ninth graders.

On Thursday, a meeting of the Advisersā€™ Council Committee on Economic Affairs (ACCEA) was also held. It approved in principle a proposal of the ministry of food to cut international open tendering time, clearing way for importing 3 lakh metric tonnes of rice.
