Govt keeps CNG stations open round the clock for Eid holiday travel

Bangladesh has ordered all compressed natural gas (CNG) filling stations across the country to remain open around the clock ahead of the Eid al-Adha holiday, as authorities seek to ease travel congestion during one of the nation’s busiest travel periods.

According to officials in the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, the directive will remain in effect from May 23 to June 2, 2026.

The temporary measure is intended to ensure uninterrupted fuel supplies for long-distance and local transport services as millions of people travel from major cities to their hometowns to celebrate the Islamic festival.

Officials said the order covers the seven days leading up to Eid, the full holiday period and five days after the celebrations.

Under normal conditions, many CNG filling stations in Dhaka and other parts of Bangladesh are required to suspend operations daily between 6pm and 11pm to help manage gas pressure and balance supplies for industrial and residential consumers.

Those restrictions have now been temporarily relaxed for the Eid period to facilitate smoother passenger and freight transport nationwide.
