The interim government has announced a significant reshuffling of the boards of companies under Petrobangla and the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC).
A directive issued by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division on November 26, signed by Joint Secretary Mohammad Faruq Hossain, details the new appointments. The restructuring continues the trend of assigning government officials a prominent role in these boards.
Dr. Mohammad Ismail, Vice-Chancellor of Noakhali Science and Technology University, has replaced former Joint Secretary Shamima Ferdous as a director of Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Limited.
Engr. Manzar Khorshed Alam, former General Manager of Eastern Refinery Limited, has joined Jamuna Oil Company Limited, succeeding former Deputy Secretary Deepak Kumar Chakraborty.
Dr. Nurunnahar Chowdhury, Additional Secretary of the Energy Division, has been appointed as a director of both Jamuna Oil Company Limited and Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited, replacing Sheikh Mohammad Belayet Hossain and Md. Ittazul Islam.
Anwarul Habib, Joint Secretary of the Energy Division, will serve as a director for Ashuganj Power Station Company Limited and BAPEX.
Dr. M. Saiful Islam, Professor of Geology at the University of Dhaka, is the new director of Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited.
Muhammad Musajherul Islam, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Energy Division, and retired Joint Secretary Md. Nurul Alam Mia have been added to the board of Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Limited, replacing Barrister Moin Gani and others.
Md. Imaduddin, former Director of Petrobangla, has replaced Dr. Anwar Hossain Bhuiyan, a Dhaka University professor, as a director of Sylhet Gas Fields Limited.
Amzad Hossain, former Project Director of the Shahbazpur Gas Field Appraisal and Development Project, is now a director of Jalalabad Gas Transmission and Distribution System Limited.
Shahriar Al-Kabir Siddiqui, Personal Secretary to the Secretary of the Energy Division, has joined the board of Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Limited.
Engr. Aminur Rahman, former Managing Director of GTCL, is now a director of West Zone Gas Company Limited.
Additional appointments include:
Dr. Kazi Matin Uddin Ahmed, Professor at the University of Dhaka; Kaniz Mowla, Additional Secretary of IMED; and Md. Abdul Halim, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Energy Division, who have joined the board of Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited.
Md. Babul Mia, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, has been appointed as a director of LP Gas Limited.
The government stated that the reshuffle is aimed at enhancing leadership and operational efficiency by incorporating experienced professionals and senior officials into the boards of these key energy entities.
