Another unit of the JICA funded coal-fired power plant stated operation on trial basis on December 24, 2023.
The Unit-2 of Matarbari Power Plant has a capacity to generate 600MW of electricity, officials of Coal Power Generation Company Bangladesh Ltd said.
“Another landmark success has been added in the month of victory through synchronisation of unit-2 of the Matarbari Coal-fired power plant on trial basis,” state minister for power and energy Nasrul Hamid disclosed it at his official facebook page on Monday.
He added prime minister sheikh hasina has inaugurated the unit-1 of the power plant having capacity to generate 600MW of electricity on November 11, 2023.
The unit-1 of the power plant has started commercial electricity production on December 18, 2023.
The plant has combined capacity to generate 1200MW of electricity, according to him.
The government has invested Tk 518.54 billion to implement the plant with port facility.
The Japanese Tosiba and Sumitomo Corporation implement the plant’s as EPC contractor.
