Bangladesh targets zero carbon emissions by 2050: Nasrul

State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid said Bangladesh has a target for zero carbon emissions in power generation by 2050.

The government has been working for 40 percent clean energy by 2041
and zero carbon emissions by 2050 with setting a target, he said.

“We have taken an initiative for 20,000MW electricity from solar.”

Nasrul Hamid was addressing a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and an Implementation Agreement (IA) for 50MW solar power project as the chief guest.

He said a total of 13067.22MW renewable power from 126 projects is underway, of which
3749.07MW from 47 projects in public and private sectors are under construction.

Besides, 79 projects having generation capacity of 9318.15MW are under
process, according to him.

Around 8000-10000MW power from renewable energy will come by 2030, Nasrul informed.

Power Division, Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), PGCB and Sonagazi
Solar Power Limited (SSPL) have signed purchase agreement (PPA) and
implementation agreement (IA).

Power Division Joint Secretary Nirodh Chandra Mandal, BGCB Secretary Md
Jahangir Azad and Director of Project Development, SSPL Md Mahbubul Hasan
signed the IA deal on behalf of their respective sides while BPDB Secretary
Mohammad Selim Reza and Md Mahbubul Hasan signed the PPA at Mukti Hall of
Bidyut Bhaban here.

Power Division Secretary Md Habibur Rahman, BPDB Chairman Md Mahbubur Rahman,
Director of ib vogt GmbH Goncalo Aleixo spoke on the occasion, among others.
