Bangladesh has sought over USD$3 billion support from the Asian Infrastructure
Investment Bank (AIIB) to implement six fresh projects in power and energy
sectors.
AIIB vice chairman Rajat Misra disclosed it during a courtesy call on state minister
for power and energy Nasrul Hamid at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday.
“We have already released $956.41 million for implementing four projects under
state-owned Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB)…..now receives another
six projects with a requirement of $3068 million,” said AIIB vice chairman Rajat
Misra during the meeting.
He mentioned about the power and energy master plan and said the lender also
interested to work on distribution line of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant and
upcoming master projects on power distributions.
During the meeting, state minister for power and energy Nasrul Hamid said the
government is working to increase per capita power consumption to 1500kwh from
602kwh. “So, we seek more support from AIIB to ensure the quality power supply
to consumers,” he said.
AIIB energy specialist Haribhaskar Rangarajan, senior transport specialist Farhad
Ahmed and power division and energy and mineral resources division additional
secretaries Md Humayun Kabir and Tania Khan attended the meeting.
