Bangladesh has a plan to import 9000MW of electricity in coming days from neighbouring countries, said state minister for power and energy Nasrul Hamid.
The minister said while Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma paid a courtesy call on state minister for power and energy Nasrul Hamid at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday.
Nasrul said Bangladesh will sign a deal with Nepal to import 40MW of hydroelectricity next month.
Besides, another 500MW of electricity import from Nepal through Indian firm GMR is nearly finilised, according to him.
“We want to extend more power and energy exchange connectivity between Bangladesh and India through power exchanges with Indian states Meghalaya, Tripura, Asam,” Nasrul said.
He also urged to finilise the dedicated power transmission lines between Bangladesh and Nepal. “The dedicated line between Bangladesh and Nepal will help more speed up power trades. India will also get beneficial on it,” he said.
During the meeting, the state minister for power and energy and the high commissioner of India discussed various issues including bilateral power and energy exchange between two countries.
