DPDC suspends 2 officials, launches probe following fatal electrocution

In the wake of a fatal electrocution incident during renovation work on the 11 kV Wasa outgoing feeder at Maniknagar, Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) has swiftly suspended two officials and initiated an investigation on Friday.

Led by Executive Director (Operations) Q.M. Shafiqul Islam, the investigation committee was formed immediately on the night of the incident to determine accountability and prevent future negligence.

Preliminary findings indicate that Md. Selim Siraj, Sub-Divisional Engineer and acting Executive Engineer, and Md. Ali Azam Khan, Office Assistant, showed lapses in duty.

Both have been temporarily suspended per DPDC Employee Service Rules 2017, Section 7.6, and reassigned to the GM (HR) department. Strict actions are anticipated against those responsible based on the full investigation report. The incident, which took place on Monday evening (October 21), claimed the life of line worker (foreman) Md. Nabi Hossain and left two others, Masum Mia and Rabiul Islam, hospitalized in the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
