“This is not an accident; it’s complete negligence and irresponsibility,” Power Adviser

After visiting an injured power worker in the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), power, energy and mineral resources adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan has vowed action against the officials responsible.

“This is not an accident; it’s complete negligence and irresponsibility,” he said.

The Power Adviser questioned why the power line was live during the repair work, stating that all those responsible would face consequences.

He asserted that Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC), the contracted company, and associated firms cannot escape responsibility. Due to this negligence, one worker lost his life, and two others suffered severe injuries.

Emphasizing accountability, the Adviser remarked, “We have not assumed power; we have taken on responsibilities. It must not be perceived in the same manner as the previous government.”

He instructed the hospital authorities to ensure the best possible treatment for the injured workers, including the provision of cabins for them.

Additionally, he directed DPDC to station personnel at the hospital around the clock for any necessary assistance.

The Advisor met with the families of the deceased and injured workers, offering heartfelt condolences and assuring them of full support.

He acknowledged that while human life is irreplaceable, the interim government would extend comprehensive aid to the families and dependents of those affected.

The adviser immediately ordered compensation payments of Tk 500,000 for the family of the deceased, 200,000 BDT for the critically injured, and Tk 100,000 for the other injured worker, affirming that the government would cover all medical expenses.

Earlier, the Advisor visited the site in Maniknagar where the incident occurred, instructing authorities to swiftly investigate the cause of the accident.

On Monday evening, October 21, a power line worker was electrocuted, and two others were injured while replacing high-tension (HT) cables in Maniknagar. The deceased worker, Md. Nabi Hossain, was a foreman, while the injured workers, Masum Mia and Rabiul Islam, are currently undergoing treatment in the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Md. Nabi Hossain was employed with the annual contractor for DPDC’s Maniknagar division, ‘Messrs Moon Power Engineering’.

Road Transport and Highways Division Senior Secretary Md. Ehsanul Hoque, Power Division Secretary Farzana Mamtaz, and senior officials from DPDC and the contracting firm were present with the Adviser during this visit.
