The government is purchasing one cargo Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from the USA by this month aiming to meet growing energy needs in the country.
At a meeting on Tuesday, the Advisers’ Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP) approved a proposal of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division in this regard.
The meeting was held at the Cabinet Division Conference Room at Bangladesh Secretariat with Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair.
The meeting also approved a proposal for procuring some 50,000 metric tonnes of non-Basmati boiled rice from India.
Under one proposal, the Petrobangla will import the LNG from US-based company Excelerate Energy LP spending nearly Tk753 crore with one million metric British Thermal Units (MMBTU) costing $15.69. One cargo equals 3.36 MMBtu. Compared to two months ago, the approved price is $2.50 higher per MMBtu.
In response to another proposal from the Ministry of Food, the government would purchase 50,000 metric tonnes of non-Basmati boiled rice from M/S Bagadiya Brothers Private Ltd, India with around Tk275.30 crore where per tonne rice costing $458.84.
The purchase committee meeting also approved one proposal each from the Secondary and Higher Education Division and the Ministry of Shipping.
