IMF agrees to release $2.4bn in June, says Finance Ministry

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has agreed to disburse $2.4 billion in June 2025.

The Ministry of Finance issued a statement regarding the deferred release of the fourth tranche of a $4.7 billion loan from the IMF.

According to the statement, the IMF approved the loan amounting to $4.7 billion in 2023. Bangladesh has already received three installments totaling $2.3 billion. The installments are disbursed based on the fulfillment of conditions mutually agreed upon by Bangladesh and the IMF, aimed at strengthening the country’s economic foundation.

Budget support programs are linked to the implementation of these conditions, some of which require time. As a result, it was mutually decided to combine the two disbursements scheduled for FY2024-25.

“The IMF has agreed to combine the fourth and fifth disbursements. The disbursement will be made in June, following the satisfactory completion of the review scheduled for April and approval by the IMF Board in June 2025,” the statement said.
