B-R Powergen signs JVA to install 100MW solar power

The B-R Powergen Limited (BRPL) signed a Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) with the Chinese CREC International Renewable Energy Co. Limited (CIRE) for setting up 100 MW solar based power plant at Madarganj in Jamalpur district.

B-R Powergen Limited (BRPL) Managing director Dhurjjati Prosad Sen and CIRE managing director Xusen Wang singed the deal on behalf of their organisations.   

Power Division Senior Secretary Md. Habibur Rahman attended at the singing function as chief guest held at Biddut Bhaban.

At the signing function, Power Division Senior Secretary Md. Habibur Rahman said Bangladesh is expected to generate 1200MW of electricity from renewable by 2030 as per of the government plan to generate 40 percent of power from renewable energy.     

The state-owned joint venture BRPL, however, will implement the plant with sharing 30 percent of the stake while rest of 70 percent owned by CIRE.

The BRPL will require resettlement of 241 families to install the power plant at 348.348 acres of land.

The estimated cost of the power plant is about USD$170 million with Tk 65 crore as resettlement cost, official at the singing function said.

The plant is expected to commission on December, 2025.
